After spending several hours trying to do “the right thing” — interfacing a Windows machine with my kid’s Sansa Fuze so he can transfer music files on to it — I’ve decided I can’t do it any more. I give up.
That’s right. Starting tomorrow I’m going to install VMware player on every Windows machine within reach and load up my favorite “lightweight” Fedora Linux image on them.
From this point forward I’m giving up on making Windows work. At anything.
Starting tomorrow, my kids get a crash course in Linux desktop system administration so they can do what I did tonight:
Transfer a bunch of mp3 and ogg vorbis files in bulk from a PC onto their Sansa Fuze players using the command line in under 3 minutes (the Fuze takes a minute or two to connect over USB).
