As I’ve mentioned previously, I recently went back to Mozilla Thunderbird as my primary e-mail client. On Red Hat Enterprise Linux this inevitably has required I download the latest installer.
While the upstream package works just fine, Mozilla’s mail client, like their Firefox browser, gets better in every (accelerated) major version. Currently RHEL 6 ships with T-bird 10, while the latest from Mozilla is 11.0.1. In most cases I try to stick with the distribution (or 3rd party) when installing software. That becomes difficult when you’re talking about desktop software that tends to have a much more aggressive release cycle.
