jEdit, the cross-platform Java based text editor, is out with version 5.0 as of 22 November of this year. Installing on RHEL or any of its clones is easy.

[firstname.lastname@example.org]# java -jar jedit5.0.0install.jar
Just follow the prompts. I accepted the default for paths (/usr/local/share/jEdit/5.0.0 for the app and /usr/local/bin for the link).
You’ll also need a .desktop file to provision an icon to the app menu. Here’s mine:
