The 21st edition of Scott Mueller’s Upgrading and Repairing PCs is now out. This is now one of the two computer books I think every tech should own.
The other, of course, is Jeffrey Friedl’s Mastering Regular Expressions (edition doesn’t matter, although the 3rd would be nice to have I’ve gotten by with the 2nd for years — my friend Greg Cranz would probably want the 3rd because it covers Java regexes).
This will be the third copy of Scott’s book I’ll own. I bought the first edition shortly after building my first PC in 1989 (that was also the year I completed my Masters degree in history). I “upgraded” to the 4th edition release in 1994 just after leaving the practice of law (for the last time) and embarking on the journey that would eventually lead to a full time career in computer tech.
